JOY Bible is on a short break and will start up again on March 22nd. Our Maundy Thursday Holy Communion service will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 7:30. Please plan to attend this somber service remembering the last hours of Jesus’ life. Our Community Good Friday service will be held on Friday, March 25. Please plan to join with others in the Rockford area for worship to remember Jesus’ death. Time and location to be determined. On Sunday, March 6 Rev. Sarah Schmidt-Lee will be preaching and administering Holy Communion. She is the Pastoral Transition Coordinator of Lake Michigan Presbytery and in that capacity she is assisting our Pastoral Nominating Committee. Please welcome her to North Kent Church. On Sunday, March 13 Rev. Linda Rubingh will be preaching. The session has invited her “New City Kids” to play and sing during worship. Rev. Rubingh is the co-founder with her husband Trevor, of New City Kids and in 2012, she founded The Brighter Day Program at New City, a program for children and teens who have experienced sexual abuse, domestic violence and traumatic loss. She is a member of Lake Michigan Presbytery. Many thanks to the men of the church and the Membership Committee for hosting a lovely Sweetheart Brunch for the women last Sunday. They prepared good food, served it in an attractive setting and lively conversation flowed around the tables. Renae Venman, a college student and member of NKPC, is requesting help to do a mission trip to a university in Florianopolis, Brazil with CRU, formerly Campus Crusade. Activities during this five week mission, May 10 to June 16, will include working with university students in the areas of prayer, ministry training, spiritual conversations, and more. The goal is to have students at the college trained to be self-sufficient and able to share the Gospel with other Brazilian students into the future. Renae’s parents are members of NKPC, and John and Diane Venman, her grandparents, were among the group who started NKPC as a mission church. They were charter members when the church was organized in 1961. There are several ways to donate to Renae privately. One is to write a check to NKPC, clearly marked to support her trip. Or you can put cash in an offering envelope with Renae’s name on it. George Rabick, treasurer, will combine the donations and write a check to Renae. You will be able to claim the donation on your taxes. You may go to give.cru.org and enter Renae Venman (#0831475), also tax deductible. The cost for the trip is about $5500. The Session has appropriated $1000 from memorial funds held by our church. Renae will be commissioned for this trip during our Sunday services on May 1. Come so you can meet this charming young woman during our coffee hour. Along with other Rockford Area churches North Kent Presbyterian Church is invited to a series of Wednesday evening Lenten conversations about tough issues of today, hosted by First Congregational Church of Rockford, U.C.C. On Wednesday, March 2 the topic will be sexual abuse, on March 9, an LGBT open conversation, on March 16, Human Trafficking. The evenings begin with prayer at 6:00 p.m. followed by a presentation from 6:30-7:30. See the flyers in the narthex for more information.
