:ANNOUNCEMENTS Last Sunday was a beautiful day in the life of North Kent Presbyterian Church. We participated in an adult baptism and welcomed three new members into the Family of God here at North Kent. We thank God for them and for our bonds of service to God with them. Parking Lot: Sunday after worship please join the Facilities Committee in the Fellowship Hall to review and discuss the issues facing us in regard to the deterioration of the parking lot. Flower Chart for 2016 is now in place. If you have someone or something you would like to have the flowers dedicated to, select and complete a date, pull the related envelop, complete the slip with your dedication, and place $20 to cover the cost of the flowers. A special thank you to those who coordinated this effort. Men of the Church! Save the Date: The Membership Committee needs you to help prepare a Sweetheart Brunch for our ladies of the church on Sunday, February 21. We will need help setting up (Saturday February 20), serving, cleaning up and donating your favorite dish. The menu will be breakfast casseroles, fruits, muffins, coffee and punch. Per Capita time is again with us. The Per Capita is an amount sent to the Presbytery to cover the cost of administration of the Presbytery, Synod, and General Assembly. The Per Capita assessment this year is $25.37 per member, including children who are professing members. Each year we ask for your help in covering this cost by using your initial offering envelop and paying for each member of your home who is a professing member. Our total charge is in excess of $2,300 which is one of our largest annual expenses. So if you are able, please consider contributing to this expense. Our Ash Wednesday Service will be held on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. Please attend this somber service of Holy Communion and the Imposition of Ashes. The Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 following worship. JOY Bible will take a short break starting on February 23 and start up again on March 22nd. Souper Bowl Sunday is next week. We will be having a collection at the end of the service with assistance of our youth and the Scouts. The money will go the Mel Trotter Mission to provide meals for the hungry and homeless. Be a part of the movement that is sharing God’s love with those in need. Scout Sunday: The Boy Scouts of America designate the Sunday that falls before February 8 (Scouting Anniversary Day) as Scout Sunday, which is the primary date to recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. We will be celebrating Scout Sunday on Sunday, February 7. Your Scouts from Troop 282 will be participating in that Sunday's service. The parental and leadership support for this remarkable Boy Scout Troop 282 is a source of pride for all who are involved. These young men are in great hands. Attention! Attention! The NKPC J.O.Y. Bicycle Group will be having a planning meeting at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the church in the Teeuwissen Room. All members and friends are invited to share their favorite dish at a potluck breakfast and give their ideas and input as we plan the schedule for our bicycle outings throughout the summer. Please join us for a fun time of fellowship. Pastor Paula has spent Thursday and Friday of this past week at the Worship Symposium sponsored by the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship in Grand Rapids. This annual conference brings together a wide audience of pastors, worship leaders and planners, artists, musicians, scholars, students and other interested worshipers. People come from around the world for a time of fellowship, worship, and learning together. PNC The PNC continues to work through the process of finding a new Pastor. We met on Monday the 25th and have been finalizing interview questions and evaluation forms, a job description, church history, and an information packet to send to candidates. The Committee on Ministry cancelled their January meeting for weather reasons, but individual members are working on resumes and hopes to have a first group of recommendations for us to look at by the end of the month. Our plan is to meet on Monday the first of February if that happens, and as often as necessary after that to keep the process moving forward. Please keep us in your prayers. Sunday Morning Discussion Group will begin the new year today using a highly recommended study guide provided by Presbytery. Living the Questions 2.0 is an open-minded alternative to studies that attempt to give participants all the answers and instead strives to create an environment where participants can interact with one another in exploring what's next for Christianity. Ron Buford is one of the thirty experts who contribute to Living the Questions 2.0, the program the Sunday morning discussion group will be viewing and talking about. He was the visionary behind the United Church of Christ’s “God is still speaking” campaign. He served as the coordinator and spokesman of the initiative until mid-2006. Ron speaks and conducts workshops regularly on a national level. All are invited to come and join the discussion beginning on Sunday, January 24, at 9:30 am. LtQ2 consists of 21 sessions that may be used in sequence or independently. Each discussion will begin with a brief overview, watch/listen to a video, and then discuss the focus of the lesson. The material can be discussed in the order we want, and for as long as we want, and there are no right answers or exams. Each session is self-contained and there is no homework, so one can come when they can and not be worried about being behind. Parking Lot Next Sunday, January 31 the Facilities Committee would like the congregation to join them during the after worship fellowship period to review and discuss the issues facing us in regard to the deterioration of the parking lot. Giving Statements for 2015 are available for pick up on the table in the narthex. Please take yours home to save us the postage expense. Per Capita time is again with us.
