Each day until Easter, we want you to remove one item from your closet or jewelry box and place it in the clear trash bag provided by your Mission Committee (table in Narthex). At the end of Lent, bring the bag to church. Women's items go to the Working Women’s Closet at the Women’s Resource Center and Men’s items to the North Kent Community Services. Clean up your life this Lent and help others as well!
One Great Hour of Sharing Offering. Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God’s love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives and work together to strengthen their families and communities. The Presbyterian Hunger Program receives 36 percent of undesignated gifts, while Self Development of People and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance each receive 32 percent.

SESSION MEETING MINUTES SUMMARY– March 13, 2017
The meeting opened with prayer and worship led by Pastor Fitz La Barge.
Treasurer’s Report – Cash balance of $44,370.80. Building Fund balance of $58,681.56. Furnaces and Air Conditioning will be paid out of Building Fund, as well as the new digital sign. Contributions to the Building Fund outpace the amount paid monthly on the mortgage for the parking lot.
$1320 has been set aside for Unified Mission Giving in the budget. Presbytery asked for our 2017 pledge. Discussion followed. It was decided to send $660 to Presbytery, to be divided as follows: 38% to General Assembly, 1% to Synod of the Covenant, and 61% to Presbytery of Lake Michigan. Pastor Karen will compose a letter explaining we will match that amount at the end of the year if we get feedback from them showing they will be raising the per capita amount to better meet Presbytery administrative expenses, and that they are beginning some strategic planning. Approved
Pastor's Report: Maundy Thursday service is scheduled at NKPC at 7 PM on Thursday, April 13. The Rockford Area Ministerial Association Good Friday service will be held at Bella Vista Church with little input from the association. Pastor Karen will approach the pastor at our neighboring Christian Reformed Church to explore the possibility of inviting them to our Maundy Thursday service, and that we would attend their Good Friday service. More information to come.
Members of NKPC have been invited to an Open House at the Islamic Center on East Paris Avenue on March 22. Approved Members wishing to go can meet at the church at 5 PM to carpool.
Family camp at Camp Greenwood is the week of July 4.
Pastor Karen, besides attending regular events like choir practice, committee meetings, men’s and women’s breakfasts, Joy Bible study, etc., also helped decorate the front of the church, made many phone calls, met with Greenwood Ministries Association Board in Mason, conducted worship (and planned for it), met with a prospective bride and groom, and met with the Rockford Area Ministerial Association. Plus other activities.

The Clerk’s Annual Questionnaire for 2017 was submitted.

Mission right now is the 40 day closet purge. The committee has met with THRIVE, a program working especially with Middle East refugees. They have also attended at meeting with the Micah Center, where they learned about Rapid Response, Advocacy, and Offering Sanctuary. Discussion followed concerning NKPC’s level of involvement.
Christian Ed. - Children & Youth – Summer Sunday School will center around a DVD program called Veggie Tales. Plans are being made for a dedication for the Children’s Worship Center being constructed in the Sunday School room.
Christian Ed. - Adults - It was decided by consensus to manage Adult Christian Ed with the Session acting as a task force should problems arise in this area. Adult Ed at present includes the Sunday morning discussion, the Tuesday afternoon J.O.Y Bible study, and the J.O.Y Bicycle group. Question was raised about where the Saturday morning Men’s Fellowship belongs.
Membership – Plans are underway for a Spring Fling on Sunday, April 30.
Worship – Maundy Thursday service will be in the evening at 7 PM.
Facilities and Stewardship – We are waiting for suitable weather to patch the holes the birds are making in the stucco. Lawn contract is approved. More cleanup for the mess in the storage room is scheduled for March 25 after the Mom to Mom sale. Building use requests - One for the Mom to Mom sale Friday evening and Saturday the 25th of March, and for the Minutes Review for Presbytery on May 6.
Marketing Committee – A logo for NKPC was presented and approved by Session. Quotes are being pursued for the digital sign.
Old Business – There were several amendments to the Book of Order from General Assembly to be voted on. Most of them passed. The Presbytery of the Redwoods shared a resolution they sent to President Trump opposing the executive orders limiting refugees from six majority Muslim countries from entering the United States. They are opposed to any resolution used for the purpose of discrimination by nationality, color, or religion. The Presbytery is sending a letter supporting this position, and is suggesting churches may want to do the same. Action has been tabled.
