Sunday is the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. We thank all Veterans for their service and sacrifice for their country. We have committed ourselves to joining with the United States World War One Centennial Commission by ringing our bells 21 times at 11 am today. This act of ringing "Bells of Peace" is a celebration of the end of war. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The Nominating Committee is looking for a few good individuals to serve as Elders and Deacons. CHARITABLE DISTRIBUTIONS CORRECTED!!! If you are at least 70 1/2, you can avoid tax on transfers made directly from your traditional IRA to an eligible charity. The transfer must be made by the trustee directly to the qualifying charity. The distribution counts toward the required minimum distribution. If you choose this option, you cannot than use the gift as an itemized charitable deduction. Your trustee should be able to provide the necessary forms and answer any questions. Property donations: Fair market value is deductible for appreciated personal property stocks) and real estate held long term. 1. Your taxes are reduced by the deduction of the fair market value of the property as a charitable donation. READERS FOR ADVENT WREATH NEEDED: If you and your family or a group of friends would like to lead us in worship for our Sunday Advent Wreath readings in December, please contact Pastor Karen for your super-secret instructions! HERITAGE SUNDAY Sunday, November 11, after church, the Membership Committee is inviting you to share your heritage! You are asked to bring a “snack” that reminds you of your family’s heritage or a snack from your childhood. For example, if your ancestors came from The Netherlands, you could bring banket ( Almond pastry) or something as simple as windmill cookies. Or if your ancestors are Hispanic, maybe chips and salsa. Or you could bring something that is not ethnic, but that your family enjoyed in the past, maybe popcorn? There will be 3x5 cards available for you to describe the snack you are sharing. PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE: If you are interested in helping the Youth and NKPC build a playground please contact the church office at 616-866-2230! MAKING WORSHIP HAPPEN VOLUNTEERS: The office is thinking about 2019 already and would like to update the volunteer schedule for Liturgist, Greeter, Ushers, Counters and Nursery volunteers. We especially need more people for Nursery. Contact the church office if you want your name added to the list for any of the important Sunday Worship helpers. Let the office know by Sunday, November 11th. Thanks to all who serve! BUCKS FOR BIRDS: Each year we collect money to purchase holiday food baskets for our neighbors in need. That money is donated to the North Kent Connect who are able to make the purchases in bulk and at a discount, enough to serve 2000 clients. Thanksgiving delivery will be November 19, and Christmas delivery December 16. Please give generously. WINTER WARMTH TREE: Please help fill the Winter Warmth Tree! We will collect new clothing (hats, mittens, scarves, PJ’s, socks, undies, sweat shirts, etc.) until December 16 and then refill the tree with gently used items until January 8. All items will go to North Kent Connect. NKPC Thanksgiving Potluck! You are invited to come to our potluck thanksgiving dinner on Thursday November 22nd at 3:00 pm.
