North Kent Presbyterian Church is dedicated to reach out and help local communities and nationwide organizations.  Our Mission committee is very busy planning events, organizing collections, and volunteering their time throughout the year.  Below is a list of charitable organizations and events happening each month.  If you would like more information on how to help, please contact our church office for more information.

Full list of all our Missions

  • Two Cents a Meal- A small first step in the battle against hunger. Each member is invited to contribute a few cents every meal.  Banks are available on the tables in the fellowship hall.
  • Souper Bowl Sunday- Transforming the Super Bowl into a celebration of giving. this year’s simple collection in that soup pot benefits Mel Trotter Ministries.
  • One Great Hour of Sharing- A gift to One Great Hour of Sharing enables the church to share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world by providing relief to those affected by natural disasters, food to the hungry, and helping to empower the poor and oppressed. This offering is collected through the season of Lent and Easter.
  • Unified Mission PC(USA)- Each year North Kent Presbyterian Church pledges a certain amount of money to the mission causes of PC(USA), the Synod and/or the Presbytery of Lake Michigan.
  • Back to School Back Packs- School supplies collected during back-to-school sales benefit children/clients of North Kent Connect.
  • Mel Trotter Ministries- Mel Trotter Ministries exists to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ toward the hungry, homeless, and hurting in the greater Grand Rapids area.
  • Ronald McDonald House- A home away from home for families and children seeking treatment for seriously ill children at local hospitals. North Kent Presbyterian Church contributes monetarily by collecting pop can tabs.
  • Safe Haven Ministries- Provides emergency shelter, non-residential services and prevention and education programs for victims of domestic abuse.
  • Pentecost Offering- The Pentecost Offering nurtures the faith of those who are the church to come – children, youth, and young adults.

  • Women’s Resource Center & Working Women’s Clothing Closet- Each spring, we collect cell phones and clothing suitable for job interviews and the workplace. These items are donated to the Women's Resource Center to help improve women’s workplace and economic opportunities.  Our supports helps unemployed and underemployed women prepare for and seek meaningful employment.
  • Peacemaking and Global Witness- The Peace & Global Witness offering is used to expand global witness while maintaining Presbyterians’ longstanding commitment of working towards peace and reconciliation, especially in cultures of violence. Congregations and presbyteries each keep 25 percent of receipts for their peace and witness ministries, and 50 percent is sent to the Presbyterian Mission Agency. Our local contribution goes to Safe Haven Ministries to benefit victims of domestic abuse.
  • Winter Warmth Tree- During the Advent season, a Christmas tree in the church narthex is decorated with new children’s clothing to be contributed to North Kent Connect. After delivering those items, the tree is redecorated with new and gently used items to be delivered to North Kent Connect in January.
  • Santa Claus Girls- In cooperation with the Kent County Santa Claus Girls, church members come forward one chilly Saturday morning in December each year to distribute gifts to local families in need.
  • The Christmas Joy Offering-  This monetary offering is collected once a year during worship to financial assistance to current and former church workers and their families or opportunities for deserving students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds to achieve their dreams through Presbyterian related education.
